We Made It!

We are officially in Greece! We made it on July 16. I know what you are thinking: didn't they say they were leaving on July 14. Yes! It was a crazy adventure to get here...😆

On July 14, we went to the Appleton Airport for our 5:30pm flight. Everything went well with that first flight and we actually made it to Chicago a bit early. We ate a nice snack while we waited for our flight that would take us from Chicago to Munich.

Most of the Chicago plane was all boarded, but we had to wait a tiny bit longer for a family that was late to board. That was where the problem started. Because we were closed up and ready to leave late, the storms in Chicago had already started. There were thunderstorms, rain, and a tornado warning. We couldn't leave in weather like that. Our pilot tried to find us a gate to park at, but they were all full. O'hare airport was completely shut down because of the weather and every plane was trying to find a gate.

We ended up having to sit on the plane on the tarmac for about 2.5 hours. We did eventually get in the air, had a wonderful flight that went really well (Momo is literally the BEST cat to bring on a trip-she was quiet and slept most of the time), and landed safely in Munich. Unfortunately, we landed 15 minutes after our connecting flight left. 😫😫

We were able to get rescheduled on a different flight/airline, but it wasn't until the next day (July 16). Luckily, the airline put us up in a hotel nearby. We lugged all 7 suitcases, 3 carry-ons, 3 backpacks, cat, and cooler to the hotel (that was the tough part). The fun part was the delicious free food and the nice night's sleep. It turned out to be a blessing to be delayed. The sleep was so nice!

We left for Greece on July 16 at 10:20am and landed in Thessaloniki at 2:00pm. Miller was pretty excited, because the Greek airline we took hands out toys to all the kids aboard and he got a huge blow up airplane (it is now hanging in his new room). We were also served a very yummy lunch.

Someone from my school was able to meet us at the airport to help us take all of our luggage to our new apartment. I'll do another post on the apartment soon. For now, we are safe and enjoying our new home. And...we have a cool travel story!
