It's a Long Process...

I am so excited to put my first blog post! I am not actually sure if anyone is going to read this blog (I hope some people do), but even if people don't, it'll be a great record of the two year adventure that is to come.

Ben, Miller, and I are officially leaving some time in mid-July. It sounds close. It sounds like we should have so many details figured out. And yet...we don't. There is a lot of bureaucracy that comes with moving to another country. It's such a crazy timeline, that I decided to detail the whole thing out below. In blue, I have put the things that have already happened. In red, are the things that are yet to come before we can move.

Crazy Moving to Greece Timeline

  • December-I was offered a job at Pinewood American International School
  • January-I signed both and English and Greek version of my contract
  • February-Ben, Miller, and I submitted FBI background checks, teaching licenses, medical forms, passport copies, apostilled birth certificates, and more to the Greek government for approval.
  • March-I received approval for my teaching license to be accepted in Greece. Ben also sold his house.
  • April-My contract will be submitted to the Greek government to get official approval to work in Greece and receive residency. Residency will make it so that we can access the free universal health care. In addition, my school offers Miller and I international private healthcare. Residency also means we have visas to stay in Greece two years and don't have to go through the whole agonizing process again.
  • May-Towards the end of May, we are hoping to get the official approval that I can work in Greece.
  • June-We will go to the Greek Consulate in Chicago to get Visas. We will also pack up my classroom, our house, and sell the house! We will move in with my mom and dad until we move (thank you Mom and Dad!). We will also get our apartment planned out in Greece and secure our flights.
  • July-We will move to Greece mid July!
But the journey won't stop there! Once we arrive in Greece, we have a few important steps too...
  • August-We will obtain Greek social security numbers, residency, tour the school, and start working (Bailey and Ben) and going to school (Miller).
The three of us cannot wait for this adventure to begin. There are a lot of things that need to get done, but we know that the next two years will be filled with so many amazing adventures that it is worth the work and wait!
